Mares

Mares

"Glory"

Pusher's Wicked Walker x Dub's Bad Money (Black Dubloon x command performance mare)  Her papers read like a who's who of the walking world.  She has 3 lines devoted to Pride's Gold Coin with some Pusher CG added for even more great ability.  She is a 9 year old black mare.  She was started under saddle by Bobby and Wendell McNatt and made as a show mare but we decided she would serve us best as a momma.  It has paid off in her foal Gen's Glory to MG!  That filly will be shown by the McFadden family of Ky this year.  We call this mare Glory.

Pregnancy Blog!

Feb 20 - no milk yet but rear is getting squishy

Feb 25 - vet coming to give her milk injection and check foals position!  Temp 101

Baby not totally turned but lots of room to move.  Shot for milk induction was given and vitaferm supplement was administered.  Vet says all is well.

March 2 - Rear REALLY squishy - no milk yet.  Shedding all winter coat and she has gotten really clingy.  You cant clean the stall without her right there with you.  I think we still have at least a week but we will see! Temp 99 - domperidone paste 5cc given starting everyday til milk comes in

March 6 - Really squishy around base of tail - still little to no  milk but it looks to be in front of the bag so I am hopeful - temp 98 - lots of tail rubbing last night and she didnt eat for a long time - I am really tired now from staying up with her but I am sticking it out - vulva really relaxed and wrinkles perpendicular to the ground. - it should be anytime now!!!

March 7 - Glory has a little wax on one teet.  Her temp was 99degrees.  SHe is still squishy around her tail.  Milk seems to be there just hidden way up inside.  I cleaned her sack off and got a drop of colostrum from one side.  I guess MAYBE we will have a baby in the next couple of days.  I have not slept in 4 days so PLEASE dear LORD let her have the baby!!!

March 10 - AGGREVATING MARE!  Now she seems to have gone backwards.  No wax still squishy.  Milk still there and she still bites her sides.  I hate pregnancies that dont go by the book!  All I have gotten out of this is a cold from sitting up with her!

March 13 - OK well it would seem that this will be the never ending delivery.  She leaked clear milk last night.  She also laid down and groaned for an hour laboring to breath as well as passing lots of gas.  She swished her tail a lot and bit at her sides.  Rolling was also a nice touch which kept me in the barn just a little longer than I would have liked.  I am sure at some point she will have this foal but I guess none too soon!

March 15 - last due date!!!  No baby.  Symptoms not progressing just holding steady.

March 25 - I am guessing this mare is miserable.  We are now 13 days over due from the initial date.  No baby no more real progression unless you count how pitiful she looks.  She has milk which is cloudy and white tinted.  She eats slowly but she does eat.  She lays down and rolls trying to relieve her uncomfortable nature but she always gets back up.  I give up.  I dont know if I will ever see my Oops baby!!!!

March 31 - OK still no baby.  Milk is back.  Vet checked her and said all is fine.  The baby is still moving and all seems ok.  I am not worried I guess but I am really tired of waiting.  She didnt eat any of her hay last night but I have figured out that means nothing to her since she has not read any of the foaling books.

April 1 - Well it isnt an April Fools baby.  She is still hanging on to it.  I did elect to give her a domperidone treatment to get more milk to come in.  The vet seems to think we dont really have enough building up so we will treat her.  I think if it turns it white I may have him look into inducing because the poor mare has a lot of edema under her belly as well as along one side.  She just looks pitiful.  I am worried the baby is getting so large now it might get stuck.

April 2 - WHITE MILK FINALLY!!!  I am calling the vet to see what our options are!  Check back soon and see what happens!

April 2pm - Vet came out and administered oxytocin.  Mare began labor.  Lots of sweat and she is really uncomfortable.  Vet checked her.  His feet were folded and didnt unfold.  Another shot had to be given.  She laid down.  Vet rechecked the foals feet.  Foal hooves still were not positioned right.  Mare layed down.  Vet hooked chain to front feet.  He had to aid her in delivery.  The baby would not come out.  He finally was pulled free. Very large stud colt was born at 4:30.  He is gorgous.  His lit up and fabulous!   His name is Finally On Parole - Spike for short.
